Technology like interactive displays in classroom environments not only makes learning more accessible but also helps dramatically improve student engagement as well. These tools are easy to use, encourage collaboration, and are flexible enough to excel in just about every environment… or at least, they should be.
The important thing to understand is that not all education-oriented interactive displays are created equally. Thankfully, one separates itself from the pack in the best possible way: the recently released ScreenPlay JTouch Series 12, an example of the best that modern IT can be that truly has something to offer both educators and their students alike.
Meet the ScreenPlay JTouch Series 12: A Modern Screen For Modern Needs
All it takes is a quick look at the technical specifications of the JTouch Series 12 to see just what a flexible product line this truly is. It’s available in not one but five screen sizes, presenting an ideal solution for classrooms both large and small:
- 55″
- 65″
- 75″
- 86″
- 98″
So whether you’re looking for a solution that is perfect for a small, intimate high school class, a large college lecture hall, or somewhere in the middle, you’ve got it.
The major difference between the models has to do with maximum brightness. While the 55″ through the 75″ can hit an impressive 450 cd/m2, the 86″ and 98″ units go all the way up to 500 cd/m2. This makes those larger units perfect for brighter environments that tend to have a lot of natural lighting.
All screen sizes come complete with a D-LED backlight with native 4K resolution at 3840 by 2160 pixels. They’re in the 16:9 aspect ratio commonly found on most consumer-grade television sets these days. They also sport a static contrast ratio of 1200:1 and a dynamic contrast ratio of 4000:1, allowing them to capably and accurately display everything from videos to slideshows and presentations without an issue.
But perhaps one of the most important features of all ties directly into the ScreenPlay’s durability. When a product is designed to be used in an educational environment, it needs to be able to stand up to just about anything. Not only does it have to be mobile (and thus resistant to dings, falls, and other issues), but you never know what might happen. That’s why the frame material has been constructed from a rugged, high-quality aluminum alloy material – the perfect choice for making sure you get the longest lifespan possible out of the unit.
Connectivity is King
If an interactive display is only as impressive as the content you can play on it, know that the JTouch Series 12 also has this particular element covered. It has an impressive array of inputs, including ones like:
- VGA (Mini D-sub 15-pin connection)
- HDMI 2.0 with ARC/CEC compatibility (x2)
- USBA 3.0
- USB-B (x2)
- 3.5mm Stereo Mini Jack
- USB Type C
Those HDMI inputs allow you to effortlessly connect the ScreenPlay to most modern-day source devices like DVD players, Blu-ray players, and even computers. ARC/CEC functionality streamlines the process, allowing you to use a single remote to control everything (among other benefits). When connected via HDMI, both audio and video are handled over the same cable, so you don’t have to worry about finding multiple plugs or creating a potential tripping hazard.
As far as outputs are concerned, there is a 3.5mm Stereo Mini Jack and an SPDIF output.
But in the modern era, most content will be sent to your interactive display via either an internal network or from the Internet. Not only does the ScreenPlay offer the network connectivity you need to meet the demands of today, but it also prepares you for the needs of tomorrow as well with connections like:
- Built-in Wi-Fi 5G Hotspot (x2)
- RJ45 – LAN 10/100 Ethernet Connection (x2)
- RS232 Connection
So it doesn’t matter where your content is coming from or how quickly you need to get it ready for students – you’ll be able to get the results you need without requiring an advanced computer networking degree in order to do it.
Where Innovation Meets Ingenuity
For as impressive as the base features on the ScreenPlay are, a number of functions are included that allow it to go above and beyond similar products of this category. One of the most notable has to do with the built-in temperature sensor – invaluable for allowing the JTouch Series 12 to function at peak efficiency in virtually any environment.
Regarding connectivity, all units not only feature USB Type C 3.1 ports but also NFC (Near Field Communication) wireless technology as well. This is in addition to all the other options for connectivity outlined above. Regardless of the source device you’re using or how limited your resources are, you’ll always be able to connect directly to your JTouch Series 12 unit to display the content you need as effortlessly as possible.
The embedded system itself is also just as impressive as the larger display technology. The CPU, for example, is a highly capable ARM Cortex Octa Core A55 1.4Ghz unit that, when paired with the ARM Mail Quad Core G52 600 MHz GPU, means that there is very little you can throw at the JTouch Series 12 that it won’t be able to play effortlessly.
Note that the base configuration also comes with 8GB DDR4 RAM and 128GB of EMMC ROM, although optional upgrades are available (see more information below).
Optional Upgrades and More
Note that there are also a number of optional upgrades that educators can choose to take advantage of depending on their precise needs. In addition to the ScreenPlay unit itself in any of the aforementioned sizes, you can choose to include a OPS Slot-In PC utilising the connector built in to each display. Three options are available, Intel i5 and i7 processors with Windows 11 Pro operating system, as well as a Google EDLA certified Android 13.8..
Being Google certified means that the display offers seamless integration with the Google ecosystem, including Google Workspace (formerly G Suite for Education) and the entire Microsoft 365 suite. Teachers can easily access their Google accounts, files, and collaborative tools directly from any of the ScreenPlay JTouch 12 Displays when utilising the optional SPOPS3 (Google EDLA Certified Android 13.8 OPS).
The ScreenPlay JTouch Series 12 is now available to order with all the aforementioned features.
